Superior Donuts, By Tracy Letts, the author of “August: Osage County”In a run-down donut shop in a run-down part of town something remarkable is about to happen. A run-down life is about to be completely transformed. Tracy Letts, the Pulitzer Prize winning author of “August: Osage County” sets his sights on an entirely different target. Arthur Przybyszewski, an aging hippie and former activist has just flat given up. On everything. That is, until an explosion happens in the form of a young African American street kid named Franco Wicks who might just have written THE GREAT AMERICAN NOVEL. Add in the boisterous, ambitious Russians who own the porno shop next door, a delightfully charming and tragic bag lady and the Star Trek obsessed cop, this story of the redemptive powers of friendship bursts with life and the kind of tough love that goes straight to your heart. “Superior Donuts” serves up hot new American theater fresh from the oven. It’s both tasty and filling., Stage 3 Theater, Stage 3, Sonora, 536-1778

Red, Six Time Tony Award Winner “Tell me what you see.” … “Red”. So begins the powerful and provocative story that takes us deep into the fiery furnace of creation. In this turbo-charged biodrama, painter Mark Rothko has just landed the biggest commission since the Sistine Chapel. Crackling with insight, humor and passion, Rothko struggles to pull off one of the greatest feats in the world of art – to create overwhelming primal work that speaks to us on our deepest levels and stand for the ages. When his young apprentice, Ken, gains the confidence to challenge him, Rothko faces the agonizing possibility that his crowning achievement could also become his undoing. With productions planned in many of the country’s leading theaters, Stage 3 brings this towering accomplishment to Sonora. , Stage 3 Theater, Stage 3, Sonora, 536-1778

Saturday, 8/4
Reenactment Battle of Sawmill Flat, July 1852 Apparently tensions were created between the American and Mexican miners, due to a few Mexican bandits killing and robbing miners. By July 1852 rumors had flown that the Mexicans were going to poison a well in the Flat and create other mayhem. Col. Thomas Cazneau headed a group of militiamen with a small cannon and proceeded to the Flat; firing the cannon every 100 yards or so. The action may have created the desired effect, except that the storekeeper in the Flat said he never had any trouble with Mexicans and that the whole affair was a waste of powder.a planned "reenactment" (of sorts) of the happening. For further information, Contact the Columbia Foot Dragoons: Maj. Horace Bull, Adjuntant Aka: Donn Marinovich, Columbia State Historic Park, 533-3663

November by David Mamet, Comic Will Rogers once said “There's no trick to being a humorist when you have the whole government working for you.” Imagine this: It's November in a Presidential election year, and incumbent Charles Smith's chances for reelection are looking grim. Approval ratings are down, his money's running out, and nuclear war might be imminent. His speechwriter will only compose concession speeches, his wife is trying to trying to spirit all the furniture out of the White House and even his Secret Service agents won’t come to work. But there is a glimmer of hope. There are two turkeys in the waiting room outside the Oval Office that might just change everything. Stage 3 brings this new and uproarious political romp to town on the eve of what might be the most bitterly fought presidential election in a century. Will Rogers was right. And we may need to laugh now more than ever. , Stage 3 Theater, Stage 3, Sonora, 536-1778

Friday, 11/16 - 12/7
Brighton Beach by Neil Simon, On the eve of World War II, near the end of the Great Depression, two families shoehorned into a single small house struggle to make ends and minds meet. Neil Simon’s best nostalgic, warmhearted and tearful comedy is seen through the eyes of wisecracking teenager, Eugene Jerome. The problem is, he has hopes and dreams. But so does everyone else in his family. The heart of this play asks one question: How much will you give up for those you love? What is someone’s dream come true worth to you? The answer may be in the question. This just may be a perfect play for the holidays., Stage 3 Theater, Stage 3, Sonora, 536-1778
